The recently completed 2 .5bhk apartment located in Mumbai, showcases a mix of mid-century and modern design interplay creating a charming visual expression of the built environment.
The brief was straightforward: a modern take on design through the smart use of local and global material palette. The clients wanted a strong contemporary backdrop with use of clean lines and clutter free spaces.
The design approach was a functional layout with neutral color scheme, for the furniture, walls, ceiling and the flooring, with the exception of the kid’s bedroom.
The long foyer leads to the living room which is divided into formal seating space and dining area.
Sleek, long shoe-rack tucked in the niche with antique wall art above lines the passageway Grey ,wood and white enliven the living room with dusky brown sofa against solid wood fluted panel, a pouffe and contrast startling arm-chair A floor to ceiling mirror wall dominates one side of the dining space, whereas a huge wall clock in matte gold imparts a rustic touch to the space.
The son's bedroom is unique, in that it is the only room in the apartment that has any display of color: a structured burst of blue and yellow , a bunk bed with a Lego style stairs designed to climb . The layout of the room was challenging to work with-the bed and wardrobe were each laid out along one wall, leaving more open ground space to play around.
Given its east west orientation, the apartment is awash with natural light through the day, a fat that we take full advantage of by utilizing a light color palette of ivory throughout the house. Artificial lighting scheme that accentuates the natural rich timbers also lends a warm, cozy ambiance.
